1990 (G) Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC 5.0 Coupe – Immaculate Restored Example With Lorinser Styling additional information
1990 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC (C126) V8 Automatic
Nautic Blue Metallic | Cream Beige Leather | Rare 18” Lorinser Alloys | Extensive History | Original New-Car Invoice | Fresh Mercedes-Benz Main Dealer Service
Seraph Cars are delighted to present this truly exceptional 1990 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC, finished in the magnificent colour combination of Nautic Blue Metallic with Cream Beige leather upholstery.
As established Mercedes-Benz SEC specialists, having purchased, prepared, restored and sold numerous examples of these iconic flagship coupés, we are particularly selective about the vehicles we offer.
We can confidently say this is one of the nicest-presented 500 SEC examples we have had the pleasure of offering in recent years.
This desirable late-model C126 combines the magnificent 5.0-litre V8 engine, the revised later interior specification, timeless Mercedes-Benz styling and the outstanding engineering quality for which these cars have become so highly regarded.
What makes this particular example so special is its combination of beautiful presentation, extensive documented history, rare Lorinser alloy wheels, remarkable original features and the significant recent expenditure undertaken by Seraph Cars.
The True Cost of Restoring a Mercedes-Benz SEC
Having recently undertaken the restoration of another Mercedes-Benz SEC ourselves, we have first-hand experience of the substantial costs involved in bringing these magnificent classic coupés up to a truly exceptional standard.
Many prospective purchasers underestimate the cost of restoring a classic Mercedes-Benz properly.
When you begin to consider professional bodywork, corrosion repairs, paintwork, interior refurbishment, mechanical recommissioning, suspension, braking components, chrome detailing, alloy wheels, tyres and the countless smaller finishing details, expenditure can escalate extremely quickly.
Based on our own recent restoration experience, we would estimate that a comprehensive restoration to achieve this standard of presentation could cost £35,000 upwards, depending on the condition of the starting vehicle and the extent of work required.
This is precisely why purchasing an example that already presents to such a high standard can make considerably more financial sense than purchasing a tired car with the intention of restoring it.
We are not suggesting this particular vehicle has undergone a £35,000 restoration. Rather, its current presentation demonstrates the significant value of acquiring a carefully maintained and extensively prepared example, without having to undertake such a costly and time-consuming project yourself.
Exterior – Stunning Nautic Blue Metallic
Finished in its original factory colour of Nautic Blue Metallic, Mercedes-Benz paint code 929, this 500 SEC is a particularly elegant example of the marque’s flagship pillarless coupé.
The deep blue metallic paintwork beautifully complements the car’s imposing proportions, generous chrome detailing and unmistakable late-1980s Mercedes-Benz styling.
The paintwork is in superb condition throughout. We believe the car underwent a repaint some years ago, and the quality of the finish remains extremely impressive.
Following its arrival at Seraph Cars, the vehicle has also benefited from a comprehensive professional detailing and machine-polishing process, further enhancing the richness and depth of the paintwork.
All four wheel arches are free from visible corrosion, an important consideration with the C126 model.
Furthermore, the well-known corrosion-prone area beneath the rear windscreen and around the rear parcel shelf has previously been properly repaired, rather than simply cosmetically covered.
We have deliberately included photographs of the underside and relevant boot structure to provide prospective purchasers with additional confidence and transparency regarding the vehicle’s condition.
The car also retains its original-style Mercedes-Benz main dealer number plates and period rear-window dealer sticker, wonderful touches which contribute to its authentic appearance.
Extremely Rare 18-Inch Lorinser Alloy Wheels
One of the most distinctive features of this particular example is its exceptionally rare set of genuine 18-inch Lorinser alloy wheels.
Lorinser is a renowned Mercedes-Benz tuning and styling specialist, celebrated for producing some of the most desirable period enhancements for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Genuine Lorinser wheels in this particular 18-inch fitment are now increasingly difficult to source and make a wonderful addition to the C126’s already elegant design.
We have recently had all four wheels professionally refurbished to a stunning diamond-cut finish.
In addition, four brand-new tyres have been fitted.
The result is a beautifully balanced appearance, combining traditional Mercedes-Benz luxury with subtle period-inspired sporting character.
Interior – Cream Beige Leather & Walnut Wood
The interior is upholstered in the original factory-specified Cream Beige leather, code 265, creating a magnificent contrast against the Nautic Blue exterior.
The cabin of the C126 represents one of Mercedes-Benz’s finest periods of interior craftsmanship, with beautifully engineered switchgear, generously upholstered seating, real wood veneers and an exceptional feeling of solidity.
The leather seats are in excellent condition and have recently received specialist treatment to refresh and preserve their appearance.
The walnut wood inlays are particularly impressive.
These interior veneers commonly suffer from cracking, lifting and deterioration over time, yet the woodwork in this example remains in excellent condition, contributing enormously to the quality and overall presentation of the cabin.
Even the exterior temperature display within the instrument cluster remains clear and free from the delamination frequently encountered on these models.
The roof lining remains intact and in very good overall condition, with only a very minor amount of sagging at the extreme rear, which we do not consider significant enough to warrant disturbing the original trim.
The vehicle retains its original Mercedes-Benz radio cassette player, a particularly desirable feature for enthusiasts who appreciate the authenticity of a period-correct interior.
The original Mercedes-Benz floor mats are also present, together with the factory warning triangle located in the boot.
Overall, the interior presents beautifully and retains the luxurious, reassuring character that made the SEC such a prestigious vehicle when new.

The Legendary 5.0-Litre V8

Paired with a beautifully smooth four-speed automatic transmission, the 500 SEC delivers the effortless performance, refinement and long-distance touring ability that established the C126 as one of the finest luxury coupés of its era.
This particular example benefits from the later engine and interior specification, making it especially desirable to enthusiasts seeking the more developed version of the model.

Few classic luxury cars offer quite the same combination of understated elegance, mechanical refinement and unmistakable road presence.

Original Supplying Dealer Invoice – Over £55,000 New
One of the most appealing aspects of this vehicle is the presence of its original Mercedes-Benz supplying dealer sales invoice.
Dated 22 February 1990, the invoice was issued by authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer David J. Sparshatt Limited of Eastleigh, Hampshire.
The document confirms the original factory colour combination of Nautic Blue Metallic and Cream Beige leather, together with the vehicle’s original specification and optional driver’s seat memory function.
The total invoice amount was an extraordinary £55,129.63 in February 1990, demonstrating just how exclusive and expensive the flagship Mercedes-Benz coupé was when new.
The vehicle was subsequently first registered on 1 March 1990.
Original documentation of this nature is increasingly desirable and adds considerably to the historical interest and provenance of a classic Mercedes-Benz.
Lawton Prestige – £21,850 Sale in May 2018
The history file also contains the original sales invoice from respected classic and prestige vehicle dealer Lawton Prestige.
This invoice confirms the car was sold on 16 May 2018 for £21,850, with a recorded mileage of 88,520 miles.
The subsequent private keeper retained the vehicle for approximately eight years, from May 2018 until 2026.
Long-term ownership is always a welcome feature on a classic motor car, particularly when accompanied by a substantial history file and documented maintenance.

Bodywork, Corrosion Prevention & Presentation
The C126 is a magnificent motor car, but like many classics of its era, certain areas require particular attention as the years pass.
These include the wheel arches, door bottoms, rear window surround and rear parcel shelf.
We are pleased to report that all four wheel arches on this particular example present free from visible corrosion.
The rear parcel shelf and rear window corrosion-prone area has previously undergone proper rectification work.
We have included detailed photographs of the vehicle’s underside and the relevant boot structure, allowing prospective purchasers to examine these important areas.
Naturally, this remains a classic vehicle of considerable age, and it should be appreciated accordingly. However, its exceptional overall presentation, substantial recent expenditure and fresh advisory-free MOT make it a particularly compelling example.
Why We Believe This 500 SEC Is Special
Having handled numerous examples of the Mercedes-Benz SEC, we know how difficult it has become to find cars that combine beautiful presentation with attractive specification and extensive documented history.
This particular example stands out for a number of reasons.
Its Nautic Blue Metallic and Cream Beige leather combination is wonderfully elegant and perfectly suited to the timeless C126 bodywork.
The rare genuine 18-inch Lorinser alloy wheels provide a distinctive and desirable period appearance.
The paintwork, leather upholstery, walnut woodwork and engine compartment all present to an impressive standard.
The original Mercedes-Benz supplying dealer invoice, documented 2018 sale for £21,850, extensive maintenance records and long previous ownership provide valuable provenance.
And, perhaps most importantly, the vehicle has benefited from significant recent preparation, including a fresh Mercedes-Benz main dealer service, new advisory-free MOT, four new tyres, new brake discs and pads, and professionally refurbished alloy wheels.
As specialists who have recently experienced the substantial cost of restoring another SEC, we fully appreciate the value of acquiring a vehicle that already presents to this standard.
With comprehensive restoration costs potentially exceeding £35,000, finding a beautifully presented, well-documented example such as this represents a particularly attractive alternative to undertaking a restoration project.
We believe this is one of the nicest examples we have offered in recent years, and it is a car we would be delighted to recommend to a discerning Mercedes-Benz enthusiast or collector.
Supplied with two keys, extensive service history, original Mercedes-Benz new-car invoice, Lawton Prestige sales documentation, fresh Mercedes-Benz main dealer service, new MOT with no advisories, four new tyres, four new brake discs and pads, and freshly refurbished genuine Lorinser alloy wheels.
